Asy Syahid KH. Zainal Musthafa: Because they were considered disobedient to the Japanese Government, four Japanese officers came to the Sukamanah Islamic Boarding School to force KH Zainal Mustafa to be taken to Tasikmalaya. Hundreds of students stood in front of the Sukamanah Islamic Boarding School armed with bamboo swords. All four Japanese officers were killed. In response the Japanese Government sent troops in greater numbers. Many Santri died as martyrs in the battle known as the bloody Sukamanah incident. The incident occurred on February 25, 1944.
