Schnee von gestern

December 06, 2008 | 0 min

The citizens of Schleswig-Holstein were unprepared for the snow disaster that struck northern Germany in 1978. A three-day snowstorm with hurricane-force winds of up to 10 on the Beaufort scale left meters of snow on the ground. Power and telecommunications networks collapsed, and transport routes and thus supplies were shut down locally for days.
